BSBIRT
Ball Stud Bearing Installation and Removal Tool
To suit Caterpillar 785, 789 and 793 Haul Trucks
The engineered system for safe, precise, and fast bearing change-outs.
Developed in collaboration with mine site maintenance crews, Geographe's Ball Stud Bearing Installation & Removal Tool (BSBIRT) is a purpose-built hydraulic system for safely servicing steering arm bearings on Caterpillar 785, 789, and 793 haul trucks. It replaces a high-risk manual process with a highly efficient and controlled 3 step procedure.

Labour Saving & Asset Protection

The Challenge:
Old mate strikes again (and again...)
Traditional bearing change-outs are more than just a bottleneck; they are a high-risk gamble. The reliance on brute force, heavy hammering, improvised jacking, presses, liquid nitrogen or having to remove tie rods and steering cylinders have become outdated processes with potentially costly consequences.
-
HIGH-RISK HAZARDS
Relies on sledgehammers and brute force, putting your crew at risk. -
COMPONENT DAMAGE
Uncontrolled impacts risk damage to expensive steering components. -
WASTED RESOURCES
A slow, unpredictable process that can tie up multiple crew members and delays production.
The Solution:
Swap your old mate for a standardised procedure.
The BSBIRT replaces brute force with precision. This engineered tool uses controlled hydraulic power to safely remove, set, and install the bearing assembly, providing a faster, safer, and more reliable method.
-
ENGINEERED SAFETY
Eliminates all hammering of components whilst avoiding manual strains and potential hand crush injuries. -
REVOLUTIONARY EFFICIENCY
Reduces a multi-shift problem to a predictable one-shift solution, cutting job time significantly and drastically lowering labour costs. -
TOTAL ASSET PROTECTION
The built-in guidance system ensures perfect alignment, preventing damage to the bearing, ball stud, and steering eye during the critical installation phase.

How does it work?
The BSBIRT is designed to work in 3 simple stages: Removal, Setting and Installation.
Safe Removal
The tool’s capsule safely houses the worn bearing during the removal process, eliminating the risk of dangerous projectiles occurring and protecting your crew.
Precise Setting
By securely holding the new bearing and ball stud, the BSBIRT allows for precise, hands-free setting, keeping your crew clear of pinch and crush hazards.
Perfect Installation
The tool’s built-in guidance system ensures perfect alignment while hydraulic pressure guarantees a smooth, damage-free installation.
Proven capability in the field
In field trials with a Tier 1 miner, the BSBIRT, combined with our award-winning Ball Stud Removal Tool (BSRT), delivered significant gains in efficiency:
Two Shifts Reduced to One: Crews maintained all four steering arms in a single 12-hour shift, cutting the job time in half.
Hours Reduced to Minutes: The BSBIRT completed each bearing replacement changeout in just 15 minutes, compared to the standard process taking up to 6 hours.
This step-change in efficiency minimises downtime, reduces labour costs, and eliminates maintenance taking place over a double shift. This Specialised Tooling combination delivers a faster, safer, and more predictable maintenance solution.

Flexible Single Person Operation
Maximise Crew Efficiency:
Instead of tying up multiple crew members on a single challenging task, the BSBIRT allows one operator to manage the entire process.
Guaranteed Consistency:
Geographe Specialised Tooling™ dictates the procedure. Our engineers and development team have done the hard yards, so you don’t have to. This removal of guesswork ensures the job is done to the same safe, high standard, every time.
Simplify Planning:
The BSBIRT can turn a high-risk, multi-person job into a straightforward, one-person task, making maintenance scheduling easier and the whole process more predictable and efficient.
