Case Study

The Problem

We had been asked by clients to investigate the cause of premature failure of slew systems on Bucyrus / Terex / O&K / CAT excavators.  Geographe identified that a poorly specified  planet carrier was contributing to significant wear of the drive spline. While in some cases causing bearing failure. CAT Excavators RH Series Slew Drive Planet Carrier Spline Insert

The Solution

Geographe engineers modified the planet carrier. To accept a replaceable hardened spline insert. Which fits in place of the original soft spline. Which in turn has drastically improved reliability. This Enhanced Performance part does not require any modifications to the machine.

These planet carrier insert modifications are available on the CAT 6040 / Bucyrus RH 170,  CAT 6050 / Bucyrus RH200, CAT 6060 / Bucyrus RH340, and CAT 6090 / Bucyrus RH400. Below shows the dramatic cost savings in short and long term. By incorporating the Geographe Enhanced Performance part versus a new replacement drive. In the below chart all costs are indicated in Australian Dollars (AUD).
